about

"Break Blow Burn" is an anthem to mothers and motherhood, pointing to the invisibility of the considerable load mothers and other carers carry in our world, and connecting it to our inability to see and appreciate the abundance offered to us by our Mother the Earth. Could a society that truly valued the feminine be so endlessly extractive? The answer is a resounding NOPE. This rousing song will validate and empower everyone who has ever felt unseen in a world that is tragically limited in what it values.

lyrics

I’m gonna stand right here
Break, blow, burn
I’ve been holding up this house
Break, blow, burn
When I can’t hold it anymore
I let it fall to the floor
And I stay put
And I break, blow, burn

But I’ve got resilience growing inside me
Filling me with something that I just can’t contain
And sometimes, sometimes
I’ve gotta break, blow, burn

You didn’t see her keeping the world turning
Making the break, paying the bills
You only notice
You only notice
When she breaks
When she blows
When she burns

Your mother, she is made of water
Maybe you’ve forgotten that you are too
And when the tide starts to pull
And her cup it is full
You can bet she’s gonna break, blow, burn

I know you felt the heave of the labour
The revelatory violence that brought you to light
Now all you’ve got are complaints
About the break, blow, burn

She is a landscape with the wheels under you turning
Candy for your eye
Canvas for your paint
Stop your motor, listen to her hum
She is the wheel
She is the break, blow, burn

Get your shit together, children
Your mother wants her body back
Time to grow up little children
Your mother wants her body back
